LEOFF 1 Coalition Newsletter

Note: The Retired Fire Fighters of Washington & the Retired Seattle Police Officers Association are in the process of sending out a newsletter dealing with LEOFF 1 issues and asking you to respond to a survey. They DO NOT ask for money but do seek your response in hopes of filling out their database. That mailing is currently at the printers and will be sent to all LEOFF 1 members utilizing a DRS mailing system. Please return their survey. LEOFF1.Net

Some of you may have received a newsletter from the LEOFF 1 Coalition this week. I have received a couple calls wanting to know what’s going on with our pension. Their is absolutely nothing going on and there is no talk about merging LEOFF 1 with LEOFF 11 nor is their any talk about taking our surplus and sneaking it in the budget. There are so many inaccuracies and lies in this mailer it would take many pages to address.

So let me tell you what this is all about. The Coalition is attempting to scare everyone into thinking our pension is in jeopardy in an attempt to raise money. They have included a survey in the hopes you will fill it out. What they are attempting to do is build a database of names addresses etc. so that can be used to contact you in an attempt to raise money. The survey also talks about representing you in an attempt to secure 15% of our surplus. This will also never happen mainly because we do not have anything to trade for this to happen. Any attempt would be fought by the employers and not supported by the State. Also included is a rejection notice to the Washington State Council of Firefighters. The Council did not propose to represent all LEOFF 1 members regarding any pension matters. They are merely starting a retired FF group within their organization just as WACOPS did many years ago.The second “clip and mail” is an opt out” of the Coalition representation. This is again an attempt to get your personal info. Their goal here is to tell Legislators that they represent all LEOFF 1 members. The Coalition has no members and does not provide any financial records as to where their money goes.

In summary I would suggest that our members not fill the surveys out and do not sent them any money.

Sincerely,
Ken Crowder, Director
