Budget Negotiations

The Senate has passed its budget proposal and the House has issued theirs. Since each chamber has revealed its budget proposal, budget negotiations will soon begin in earnest.  These negotiations are always done in secret by a small specially selected group from each house. Occasional updates are provided by legislative leadership to the media.

As has been the case in previous budget negotiations, the Senate Republican budget relies mostly on existing revenues while the House proposal relies on additional taxes.  Based on recent comments in the media by budget negotiators, it appears likely that the Legislature will again go into special session.  We will continue to monitor the progress of these negotiations an keep all informed
