New WACOPS Executive Director

After a nationwide search, the WACOPS Board of Directors has hired its newest Executive Director: Teresa Taylor.

Most recently, Taylor has served for nearly seven years as Executive Vice President of Kitsap Building Association (KBA) in Bremerton, Wash. She had been with KBA since February 2006 where she also served as Government Affairs Director prior to her EVP role.

“Teresa will be great for WACOPS,” said WACOPS President Craig Bulkley. “She is familiar with our law enforcement family and issues facing cops today. “Teresa has an outgoing personality and willingness to learn,” Bulkley continued. “She has several years managing a non-profit, its budgets and personnel.

“Teresa brought to the interview process ways that WACOPS could increase our membership and bring us closer to our stakeholders.”

Taylor was among multiple candidates who expressed interest in the open position. Previous executive director Carl Nelson had filled the role before retiring in late May. During the interview process, the selection committee learned that Teresa has years of experience and knowledge working with legislation and Legislators in our state. Of particular note, Taylor’s confident, direct and clear communication ability were especially impressive to the Board.

Vice-President Neil Martin stated he appreciated what he viewed as great communication skills and recognition of strengths and opportunities. “I think she will bring a sense of direction that will move the organization forward in line with the membership and their vision,” Martin said. “I see her as a successful executive director because she has both the skills and the passion.”

Taylor is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University (BA, Business Administration and Management).

Her first official day with WACOPS will be December 4, 2017.
