As you may have seen in the media, last week the Legislature passed a bill to exempt themselves from the Public Records Act and overturn a final judgment against the four elected leaders of the Legislature finding they had broken the law by not releasing seven months of requested calendars and official emails and texts. They introduced this Bill in Caucus meetings Wednesday night, held a hurried, little notice “work session” TH, and pulled it to the floor of the Senate 48 hours after its introduction where Senators were not allowed to amend it or speak against it and were threatened if they voted against it that they would not receive support from their party in their next election. Minutes after it passed the Senate (which took just minutes), it was pulled to the floor of the House where the same farce occurred under the same rules. 21 of the 147 Legislators had the courage to vote no. The rest bent to the pressure and voted yes. Governor Inslee has until midnight Thursday to veto it, and make it go back for a better proceeding and consideration. The below is from the Seattle Times editorial; on the front page this morning. newspaper from across the State have similar editorials, also on page 1. I was just interviewed by KOMO about it.
